Chief Executive Officer
In 1999, Larry began the formation of North State Bank, seeking individuals who shared his vision of creating a bank guided by its core values and dedicated to treating employees and customers with dignity and respect. North State opened its doors on June 1, 2000, and under his leadership has held fast to its identity, remained an independent community bank, and sought growth that adds value to those we serve.
A Raleigh native and a veteran of the North Carolina banking community, Larry began his career with Wachovia Bank and Trust Company (now Wells Fargo). His career advanced in positions of increasing responsibility and authority, first at Wachovia and then at Triangle Bank, where he served as senior vice president and city executive for Raleigh.
An alumnus and long-time supporter of North Carolina State University, he was a 1997 recipient of the NC State University Distinguished Alumnus Award. He previously served as President of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the NC State College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He also served as a member of several boards including the NC State Foundation, the NC State University Endowment Fund Board of Trustees and the NC State Board of Visitors. Larry was the president of the NC State Alumni Association from 2013-2014.
He has been an active member of the NC Bankers Association (NCBA) for decades and served as the 2010-2011 Chairman of the Board. In 2021, the NCBA named Larry to the North Carolina Banking Hall of Fame as a tribute to his dedication to the state's banking industry and acknowledgment of the impact he has made on the community.
With a heart for service, he has lent time and expertise to many Wake County organizations over the years. He is a three-term member of the WakeMed Hospital Board. Larry is also a former board member of several organizations, including the John Rex Endowment, the Hospice of Wake County Capital Campaign Major Gifts Committee, the Think First Foundation, and the North Carolina Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In 1995, Larry received The Gordon Smith Award presented by The Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education in recognition of his outstanding support and leadership to help secure the financial security of the Poe Center. In 2022, he was named as a CEO of the Year by Business North Carolina. In keeping with Larry’s passion for the community, North State Bank created an annual signature fundraiser, Summer Salute, which has donated over $2 million to Transitions LifeCare, specifically supporting indigent care.
